When I designed the puppets for Little Shop of Horrors at the Pasadena Playhouse, I knew the show had a legacy — but I didn’t realize how deeply my new take on the character of Audrey II would land with audiences.
From the moment Audrey II appeared, something clicked. People started posting fan art -
I've also seen some really delightful videos that celebrated the show’s bold aesthetic and reimagined puppet design. One especially fabulous video walked through the entire production with genuine enthusiasm — highlighting the puppetry as a standout element.
And a unique compilation of seemingly purse captured puppet moments. NOTE - I don't condone illegal recording of anything.
But the most surreal moment? Hearing that a few fans loved the design so much… they got Audrey II tattoos.
I'm in absolute awe that something I helped bring to life ended up permanently inked on someone’s skin. That’s the magic of puppets: you build a moment, and somehow it lasts.
Even after the show ends.
Here’s to more fandom and more bold freaky takes on classic musical theater.
More dispatches soon.
