Sean Cawelti's work explores the intersection between modern technology and folk traditions including puppetry and mask work. As founding Artistic Director of Los Angeles' maverick Hyper-theater makers Rogue Artists Ensemble, he has been creating devised ensemble-based work for over fifteen years.
Not limited to a stage, Sean has directed awards programs, arena tours, large scale happenings and immersive galas. A member of United Scenic Artists, Sean often designs video, puppets, masks and scenery for the productions he directs, harmoniously integrating visual storytelling, physical and object-based performance.
Sean has won awards for his work as a director, playwright and designer, including the prestigious Sherwood Award from the Center Theater Group. He was selected for the 2017 SDC Observership Class and was recently featured in American Theater Magazine as one of the top 5 artists to watch.
